Edinburgh Day 11 (8/8)

Today was definitely *not* a routine morning. I was up and out of the house before 8am so that I could walk up to my parent’s hotel near ST. James’, there to catch a cab to the start of a bike tour around the city.

We drove south of town and arrived at cute cafe and garden where we’d get our bikes and meet our guides. We meet the rest of our group (a family in from Vancouver) and our tour guide Carmen. Then it was off, zooming around the city using all the streets, bike lanes and trails scattered throughout Edinburgh.

We got to see a lot of the city in the roughly 4 hours and 20 miles of the tour. We followed the canal, the Waters of Leith, saw the seaside in Portobello, Saughton Gardens, Murryfield Stadium, Dean’s Village and much more.

Once the tour finished, my parents and I hopped a bus back into the city, dropping them at their hotel before I made mine back to the cast house for a much needed nap. I spent a quiet afternoon there, and before long it was time to suit up and head to the show. It was raining - probably the heaviest we’d seen on the trip so far - so we decided to take the bus rather than walk the 25 minutes to George St. This turned out to be a mistake on our part. The bus we were expecting to catch didn’t arrive for the posted time, so we needed up waiting another 10 minutes for the next on the same line - which we didn’t even get onto until just about our typical call time! The rain had clearly bogged things down, and the slow crowded bus trip ratcheted up our anxiety, but ultimately got us where we were going (barely 10 minutes before our curtain time though!).

Fortunately we had maybe 12-15 folks in the house for what turned out to be a solid show. ur swing was on again, for her 4th consecutive show, and was again terrific.

Post-show I was able to have a drink with my parents at a pub around the corner from our venue, while much of the rest of the team went to a cool cocktail bar nearby called the Cauldron.

Tomorrow we’d have another morning call for our tech ahead of performing in Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe!
