Edinburgh Day 10 (8/7)
After another routine morning, my first adventure of the day was using a laundromat to get show pieces washed ahead of our performance that evening. I had a couple of false starts, but eventually found success. It was more expensive than I was expecting, but it was also *much* faster than the local home washing machines - the one in our flat takes ~2.5 hours, and that’s just the wash cycle. Don’t get me started on the drying…
Then, it was off to meet up with my parents! They arrived earlier in the afternoon, after traveling overnight, and were hitting the ground running. We were booked for a mid-afternoon whisky tasting at the Johnnie Walker Experience downtown. I trimmed over to the west side of new town Edinburgh, which I hadn’t been through since I came in from the airport. We met up in the lobby of the Johnnie Walker building - a recently refurbished former department store - and headed up to their top floor bar for the tasting. The whole place was gorgeous, and over the next hour we sampled 5 of the many (many) whiskies JW offers.
Two standouts for me were the Cardhu 12 year-old, and the Cameronbridge 19 year-old.
Post-tasting, we walked back towards the city centre to look for a likely pub to grab an early dinner in. We stopped at a quiet place on Rose St. for fish and chips and burgers. We then made our way back to their hotel (the W Edinburgh) before I turned around to head to the venue for the evening show.
Tonight our swing was on again, though this time in the Ava track for the first time. As expected, she did fabulously. Overall it was a good performance, and though the house was on the small side, they were generous in their reactions.
I headed straight back to the house after the show wrapped, because the next day I’d be rising early to join my parents on a cycling tour around the city!
