Edinburgh Day 8 (8/5)
Happy Monday!
Things are really starting to move at a regular rhythm now, and today felt particularly normal going through the routine I’ve found.
One of the errands for the day was to find a scale to weigh myself on. Back home this is something I do ~3 times a week, and as of today it’s more than a week since the last time I did. Luckily, I found a gym within easy walking distance that not only offers no-contract monthly memberships, and has open-space to workout in, in addition to a bunch of equipment strewn across two floors. I got packed up and walked down to see if it would do.
On the way, I nearly got bombed by half-eaten tortilla wrap. It landed with a big splat on the sidewalk just next to me, as was immediately followed by an irate seagull who picked it back up and tried to keep flying with it. This was a *big* bird, and the wrap was fully half its size, but it was angry and determined, and was back in the air before I had quite registered what was going on. The seagulls here can be…intense.
The gym turned out to be almost perfect (wow was the music loud…) and I happily signed up for the month. I used their scale, then got in a workout in their open class area, working out in a commercial gym for maybe the first time in 15 years.
Leaving the gym I stopped at the grocery store for some supplies, then took a leisurely stroll back up Leith Walk looking for a place to grab a quick lunch.
As I was in no rush, I stopped in to a few shops that had caught my eye over the course of the last week. These included:
Ancient Robot Games - cute, but very crowded. Focus seemed to be on board games. Met an adorable doggo.
Elvis and Shakespeare Books and Records - specializing in second-hand, and jam-packed with stuff, but less kitsch than expected.
Black Fox Tavern - quirky, new pub with a sort of spy (?) vibe. Continued the odd pattern of calling what I think of as fried chicken sandwiches, ‘chicken burgers’.
Majestic Wine Warehouse - just what it says. I was the only person in the store (it’s a bank holiday Monday in the UK). Got to sample a British (!?!) sparkling wine, and ended up leaving with a bottle of fizzy rosé.
My stroll up Leith Walk complete, I put my purchases away, cleaned up, and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing.
Tonight’s show was technically our opening?, but more interesting was that one of our primary cast wasn’t feeling well, so it was the first show that our swing went on. She (of course) nailed it, and the small but appreciative audience seemed to have a good time. A number of us went down the block to the food/drink ‘tent’ by the Assembly Rooms venues. Aperol spritzes and gelatos were the plan, and the plan was good ;-)
Tomorrow - flyering attempt #2!
